Hi!\u00a0Thanks for stopping\u00a0by the TikiGarage.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve been asked why I do this. Guess I\u2019m just fascinated with primitive art –\u00a0woodcarvings in particular. There is something magical about them and what they represent. \u00a0Ancient Gods and mysterious legends. And there is such beauty in the wood \u2013 grain,\u00a0color, shapes defined by shadows and the raw energy of the scarred surfaces the tools make.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve spent countless hours cutting and splitting firewood in my backyard. I jokingly said\u00a0one day I would make a sculpture from a twisted\u00a0root or interesting log. Then it dawned on me…\u00a0Why not just do it? After a bit of experimentation,\u00a0it became a passion.\u00a0Before I knew it, I was in the garage surrounded by these tiki guys. And the TikiGarage\u00a0just sort of “happened”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve studied many woodcarving styles and\u00a0gravitated toward the traditional Hawaiian tikis \u2013\u00a0menacing yet playful. I also draw inspiration from\u00a0the tree carvings of Papua New Guinea and the\u00a0totems of the Pacific Northwest. And watching\u00a0Japanese monster movies as a kid.<\/span><\/p>\n

My intent is to make an emotional connection with the viewer. To that end, I carve with a playful energy and put as much expression into these characters as I can. They take on their own personalities and become my \u201cfriends\u201d.\u00a0It\u2019s a pleasure to introduce you to them.<\/span><\/p>\n
